This online course empowers aged care workers to identify, assess, and reduce falls risks for older people through practical, person-centred strategies. Learn how to recognise physical, cognitive, medical, and environmental risk factors, respond effectively to incidents, and support safe mobility and recovery. Objectives
This course covers:

Understand why falls are a major cause of injury, hospitalisation, and death in older people

Recognise physical, cognitive, medical, and environmental risk factors for falls

Conduct and respond to formal and informal falls risk assessments (e.g. FRAT, FROP, MFES)

Identify common medical contributors such as orthostatic hypotension, vestibular disorders, and medication side effects

Respond appropriately to fear of falling, dementia, and delirium as cognitive risk factors

Implement prevention strategies including safe environments, mobility support, and allied health input

Understand your role in reporting, documenting, and responding to falls in line with duty of care and dignity of risk

Deliver effective post-fall care and know when and how to escalate concerns within your scope of practice
