This vital online course equips aged care workers with the knowledge and confidence to identify, respond to, and escalate medical emergencies in older people. Rooted in person-centred, trauma-aware care, the course prepares you to act swiftly, safely and within your scope of practice, helping ensure the best outcomes for those in your care.
This course has been mapped to the Aged Care Quality Standards: 2.9.6, 3.2.5 & 3.3.3
Objectives
This course covers:

Understand your responsibilities under the Aged Care Quality Standards

Recognise and respond to common medical emergencies in aged care (e.g. stroke, chest pain, sepsis, delirium)

Apply escalation procedures and communicate effectively using ISBAR

Identify goals of care, advance care plans (ACPs), and MOLST
-
Monitor for signs of deterioration, including changes in function or behaviour
-
Know when to contact emergency services or clinical teams (e.g. ACE or GP)

Provide appropriate first aid and initial care based on symptoms

Practice safe, respectful, and rights-based care during emergency situations
