Description
This online course supports disability support workers to build the knowledge, awareness and practical skills needed to provide informed, inclusive and strengths-based support to people who are neurodivergent. The course explores the concept of neurodiversity and takes a focused look at two of the most common neurodevelopmental differences encountered in disability settings - Autism and ADHD. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how Autism and ADHD present across individuals, including differences in communication, sensory processing, executive functioning and emotional regulation. The course moves beyond a deficit-focused lens, encouraging workers to recognise the strengths and abilities of the people they support alongside their support needs. Participants gain practical, evidence-informed strategies for creating supportive environments, responding to meltdowns and shutdowns, managing escalation and communicating effectively. Enabling them to deliver disability support that is respectful, responsive and genuinely person-centred.
