Diversity and Sexuality

This online course supports disability support workers to build the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to provide rights-based, respectful and inclusive support around diversity and sexuality for people with disability. The course explores diversity, sexuality, sexual orientation and identity. Alongside the principles of a rights-based framework and the concept of intersectionality, helping workers understand how multiple aspects of a person's identity can shape their experiences of inclusion and marginalisation. Participants gain a clear understanding of capacity and consent and how to balance duty of care with dignity of risk when supporting participants' relationships, intimacy and sexual expression. The course also addresses unconscious bias, reflective practice and trauma-informed approaches, equipping workers with practical strategies to promote respect, autonomy, safety and inclusion. Participants finish the course with the tools to support people with disability to express their identity and sexuality in a way that upholds their rights, dignity and self-determination.
