Description
This online course supports aged care and disability support workers to build the knowledge and confidence needed to balance a person's safety with their right to make their own choices. The course explores duty of care, dignity of risk, informed choice and supported decision-making, alongside the principles of capacity, consent and substitute decision-making. Workers learn how these concepts work together in everyday practice, including how to recognise and respond to risk, communicate information in ways people can understand, and support decisions without taking control away from the person. Participants also gain practical guidance on identifying breaches of duty of care, documenting decisions, escalating concerns and reflecting on their practice, so they can provide care that is safe, respectful and promotes dignity, independence and self-determination.
